Jaw bones artwork
 
A simplistic mandala design created purely from real vole jaw bones.
It takes a lot of owl pellets to find this many tiny jaw bones.
The mandala has been mounted onto a matte black Fabriano card and is displayed in a black 15x15cm shadowbox frame. 
 
All these artworks are created with real bones sourced ethically/naturally through wild owl pellets.  The owl pellets are dissected for the skulls and bones then the bones are cleaned and whitened over several days. I then go through the bones sorting them into different bone types using tweezers, then they go into my bone boxes ready to use for my artwork.
 
My art process is long and tedious. Each bone has been individually selected and carefully put into place before glueing them down. Tweezers and a needle are used to carefully move the bones to make sure they work with one another and flow naturally.
