"Dancing in the Moonlight" Real bone mandala

This piece took many days a week over several weeks from the end of 2021 to Jan 2022 to complete.
A beautiful, unique original artwork. Created with time, patience, precision and natural inspiration. This piece means a lot to me and represents the end to a tough year but the start of a new beginning.
 
This stunning mandala features 3 bat silhouettes dancing in front of the full moon. The moon has been created using real tiny bones from mice, voles and shrews.
 
My art process is very long and tedious. Each bone has been individually selected and carefully put into place before glueing them down. Tweezers and a needle are used to carefully move the bones to make sure they work with one another and flow naturally.
 
If a bone is ever so slightly too big or small I will search through my bone boxes for the right one or leave the section until another day. Whilst creating this piece I broke and lost lots of bones that I spent ages searching for, I strive for perfection in my work and no piece is ever rushed.
 
The bones used in these artworks are sourced ethically/naturally through wild owl pellets. The process to remove, clean and sort the bones is a tedious task in itself. These particular bones aren't as white as the bones I normally use, but they are bones that have retained their natural yellow bone colour, it really adds to the natural atmosphere of this piece.
 
Dancing in the Moonlight is mounted onto a dark matte black card and displayed in a 20x20cm black shadowbox frame with a black matte border. The diameter of the moon is 13cm.

The glass has been taken out for the photos, colours may differ due to lighting, please note the photos showing the frame were taken in a yellow lighting, the piece looks stunning in natural day light.
